We have a new episode series called Growing Up In Medicine. In this series we will feature the untold and often twisted stories behind the CVs. Unlike a boilerplate career advice talk, we will examine in some depth and in the context of a broader narrative the hidden human factors behind working in medicine and show that a smooth career path is rather rare. We will discuss failures, mistakes, discrimination, impostor syndrome and more.
Our first episode features @TheRealDoctorT, a nephrologist in San Antonio, Texas, who's incredible Twitter stories about medicine have resonated with thousands online. His tweets are known for eloquently expressing the nuanced experience of medical students, residents, and staff around the world and across the ages. The diagnosis of life-threatening illness can drastically change our lives. In the whirlwind of burdensome medical problems, our other physical, social, psychological, and spiritual needs can become lost. Palliative care is all about caring for a person as an individual in face of such an illness. Such care is very much needed as well - 90% of us will die from a chronic disease. Unfortunately but understandably, there is much fear and misconception surrounding this important practice. In this episode, Dr. José Pereira beautifully explains what palliative care is truly about, and where it should go in the future.

Sunday Jun 07, 2020
Sunday Jun 07, 2020
The ID Podcast is dedicated to sharing stories about medicine and the people behind them. As a group of medical students, we recognize that the experiences of Black patients have historically and continue to be underrepresented in the conversations of health and Black students continue to be underrepresented in healthcare fields. Anti-black racism is a public health crisis that demands our collective attention. The intersection of race and health is highlighted in the continued lack of access to healthcare and community services amongst Black Canadians. We would like to highlight some of the disparities that Black Ontarians face today.
